Court Strikes Down Trump Tariffs in Case Supported by WA Governor, Treasurer

From the Treasurer

OLYMPIA – Following the U.S. Court of International Trade’s immediate invalidation of Trump's blanket tariffs, in which the court cited that the President overstepped his authority by imposing across-the-board duties on imports from U.S. trading partners, Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti issued the following:

“This first step is a big win in stopping the reckless manner in which the President is unilaterally wrecking the economy. Our coalition put forward a briefing that added necessary context of how detrimental these tariffs are to Washingtonians.

“I have heard the concerns of business owners and workers from every corner of our state, from our farmers in Eastern Washington to our shellfish growers on the Peninsula, and port officials monitoring trade in real time, and I am thankful that our legal briefing is giving voice to all impacted Washingtonians.

“Since January, I’ve called out the reckless and chaotic manner in which these tariffs have been proposed by the President. The court ruling validates the improper way the President has issued these tariffs. While I know the President is appealing this federal court ruling, my office will continue to legally fight for the financial and economic interests of the people of the state of Washington.”
